Prince David Osei, one of Ghana’s fine actors has said Kumawood movie producers are the reason the local movie industry keeps losing patronage.
In an interview with Hitz FM in Accra recently, the actor who is known for his versatility disclosed that he had to hang a call on a Kumasi-based movie producer whom he said disrespected him in with an offer.
Prince who did not mention the name of the producer said he was called for a role in a local movie and was offered Ghc 2,000 that made him feel he was disrespected.
“He wanted to give me GH¢ 2,000 for a role. He was begging me to take that amount but I told him to look for someone who will take that amount. The producer kept pushing so I had to cut the call,” he revealed, saying that he felt the local movie industry in Kumasi might be dwindling because producers fail to get quality actors and pay them well for their movies.
To Prince who is well known as an English actor since 2005, he would not mind featuring in an Akan movie if producers are ready to pay him well.
Stressing on why he did not take the money he was offered, he revealed : “I charge GH¢10k for English Movies so that amount was next to nothing to me.”
Prince, now a director and producer, was shot to fame in 2006 when he starred in“Fortune Island”, a movie that won him an award as best actor in the City People Entertainment Award.
He has since been featuring in Ghanaian and Nigeria movies. He gives out his best when he’s landed ‘playboy’ and romantic roles in movies.
He has put out splendid performance alongside some well known actors and actresses both in Ghallywood and Nollywood.
He has acted alongside some big names in Nollywood like Imeka Ike, Ramsey Nouah, Omotola Jaledi Ekehinde, Mercy Johnson, Genevive Nnaji etc.
